Welcome to AustralianWrestling.org!
The website devoted to preserving the history of Australian wrestling.

We're in the process of renovating and moving some things around so some things may look a little strange but the aim is to minimise disruption.

This website was designed in 2012 with a scope of covering present and past wrestling in Australia.
The scope will change to prioritise the older stuff and make that a bit more accessible.

I also have another website (with my good buddy Greg) The Wrestling Roadshow which has more of a global scope. We have a podcast by the same name too and discuss all sorts of wrestling.

Jim Barnett

Name: - Jim Barnett
Born: - June 9, 1924
From: - Oklahoma City, Ok
Died: - September 18, 2004

Began in wrestling as a writer / booker for Fred Kohler in Chicago in 1949. Ran promotions in Chicago, Indianapolis and Cincinnati. First teamed up with Johnny Doyle in Detroit in 1959.

Came to Australia in 1964 with Doyle, on the advice of Jack Little, and established “World Championship Wrestling”. Shortly before Doyle's death in 1969, Barnett joined the NWA. Sold the promotion at the end of 1973 and moved to Georgia, where he bought 'Georgia Championship Wrestling'. He later became an advisor to World Wrestling Federation, Jim Crockett Promotions, and World Championship Wrestling (Global), before retiring from the business in 2001.
